Cotton Backhouse Family Foundation

The Cotton Backhouse Family Foundation is a private charitable foundation established in 2020 as the philanthropic arm of the Cotton family, in an effort to make the world a better place. Emma Cotton spearheads the foundation, and below are a number of organisations we proudly support:

The Human Variome Project is a global initiative founded by Prof Dick Cotton that maintains and curates databases of genetic mutations, to save lives and prevent disease by making this information available for free, globally.

Igniting Change is a deliberately tiny charity, passionate about sparking big, positive change for people doing it tough in our communities. We listen and stay open minded. We value the voices of people who have lived experience, whose diverse backgrounds enrich our perspective. Sometimes being small stops us connecting as widely as we’d like to, but we’re sure it makes us more effective. We are moved by the humanity and courage of the people we walk alongside and think their stories best sum up what we do.

Children’s Ground is creating new future for the next generation of First Nations children and families. A future full of opportunity and hope. Children’s Ground have developed a new approach to learning, health and employment for First Nations children  and their families. Designed, delivered and evaluated by and for the community.  And it’s working.  Go and visit and see for yourself! It will be a life changing experience for you and your family.

Mirabel has been helping vulnerable children and carers for 25 years. Established by the incredible founder Jane Rowe, Mirabel is run by a small, dedicated team who are passionate about giving Mirabel children and their carers the support they need to live their best possible lives. Mirabel is unique in Australia, working with the forgotten victims of drugs. Our aim is to restore a child’s sense of self-worth and belonging. By supporting both the children and their carers, we strengthen families to thrive during this difficult journey.

Graça Machel is one of the world’s leading advocates for women’s and children’s rights and has been a social justice and political activist for many decades. She established the Graça Machel Trust in 2010 as a Pan-African advocacy organisation focused on child health and nutrition, education, women’s economic and financial empowerment, leadership and good governance.

The Melbourne Foundation provides private school secondary scholarships for financially disadvantaged. It was established in 2006 to provide scholarships to Australian children from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, based on the principle that education provides the best avenue to open opportunities in a person’s life.

Pungle, the leading Australian Charity Donation Platform that provides an annuity stream to great causes, is funded, developed and managed by Uluwatu Capital. Pungle is an App that gives donors the ability to donate to their preferred cause, on their birthday, every year, for the rest of their life, with 97.1% of the funds going to charity given the philanthropic support that Pungle has received to develop and manage the platform (2.9% taken as the  payment processing and administration fee – no other platform fees are charged – other platforms charge over 10% with all their different fees).

The Cotton Backhouse Family Foundation is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR). ACN 651 309 250
